M Sreeshankar First to Qualify for 2019 World Championships
He may have had a disappointing Asian Games in Jakarta but young long-jumper M. Sreeshankar’s national record at the National Open in Bhubaneswar a few weeks later came at a perfect time. The 8.20m at Bhubaneswar in the last week of September helped the 19-year-old become the first Indian to qualify for next year’s World championships in Doha. IAAF announced its qualification standards for the Worlds (Sept. 27-Oct. 6, 2019) on Tuesday and fortunately for Sreeshankar, the entry gates for Doha opened on September 7 this year and will close on September 6, 2019. And in men’s long jump, the automatic qualification standard is 8.17m.
